Verse 1:

G G C6 C6 Dsus Dsus D D
Everything is open, nothing is set in stone
G G C6 C6 Dsus Dsus D D
Rivers Turn to ocean, ocean tide you home
G G C6 C6 Dsus Dsus D D
Home is where the heart is, but your heart had to roam
G G C6 C6 Dsus Dsus D D
Drifting over bridges, never to return
D7 D7
Watching bridges burn

Chorus:
G G D D Am Am
Your driftwood, floating underwater
C C
Breaking into pieces, pieces, pieces
G G D D Am Am
Just driftwood, hollow and of no use
C C
Waterfalls will find you, bind you, grind you

Verse 2:

Nobody is an island, everyone has to go
Pillars turn to butter, butterflying low
Low is where your heart is but your heart has to grow
Drifting under bridges, never with the flow

Bridge:
Am Am D D
And you really didn't think it would happen
Am Am D D
But it really is the end of the line
G G D D Am Am
So I'm sorry that you turned to driftwood
C C G G
But you've been drifting for a long, long time

Verse 3:

Everywhere there's trouble, nowhere's safe to go
Pushes turn to shovels, shovelling the snow
Frozen you have chosen the path you wish to go
Drifting now forever and forever more
Until you reach your shore

*Back to chorus*
*then Bridge*

Outro:
(As intro)
Am Am D D
But you've been drifting for a long, long time...

About this song: Driftwood

"Driftwood" is the second single from Travis' second album, The Man Who. It became their biggest UK hit single up to that point, peaking at #13 in the UK Singles Chart. Fran Healy, lead singer of the band, has said: "Driftwood is a song for the person in your life who has so much potential and, yet, doesn't use it because they're afraid of falling on their backside, you know, they're afraid of making a fool of themselves. But, yet, if they put their minds to it and just threw their plate out the window, they would actually do a lot with it and make themselves happy and other people happy."
