Am Am G G
Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
D D C C Am Am
Your love affair has got to go
G G Am Am
For 10 long years, for 10 long years
G G
The leaves to rake up
D D C C Am Am G G
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Am Am
Blue, clouded grey
G G
You're not a crack up
D D C C Am Am
Dizzy and weakened by the haze
G G
Moving onward
D D C C Am Am
So an infection not a phase
Yeah, oh

The cracks and lines from where you gave up
They make an easy man to read, oh
For all the times you let them bleed you
For a little peace from God you plead, and beg
For a little peace from God you plead
Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah

Wake up young man, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up
Oh, yeah

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go, yeah
For 10 long years, for 10 long years,
The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Slow suicide's no way to go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up

About this song: Wake Up

This song, together with "River of Deceit", started the project Mad Season. Mike McCready met bassist John Baker Saunders while they were both in rehabilitation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They wrote this song in 1994 in Seattle, Washington, and there they met Barret Martin. McCready then brought in friend and Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley to round out the line-up. Layne's friend had hoped that being around sober musicians would push Staley to get himself sober. Read more on Last.fm.
