In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream

Sprung from cages on Highway 9
C C D D C C
chrome wheeled, fuel injected and, steppin' out over the line

Baby this town rips the bones from your back,
Am Am D D
it's a death trap, it's a suicide rap.
C C Am Am
We gotta get out while I'm still young
C C D D E E
'Cause tramps like us baby we were born to run.

Beyond the palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard

The girls comb their hair in rear-view mirrors

The amusement park rises bold and stark

Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
C C
I wanna die with you Wendy on the streets tonight
Am Am D D
In a everlasting kiss

G G
Well, The highways jammed with broken heroes
C C D D
On a last chance power drive
E E
Everybody's out on the run tonight
C C D D
But there's no place left to hide
C C E E
Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness
C C D D C C
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
E E Am Am
Someday girl, I don't know when, we're gonna get to that place
D D
Where we really wanna go
C C Am Am
And we'll walk in the sun
C C
Till then tramps like us
D D E E
Baby we were Born To Run.

About this song: Born To Run

Born to Run is the signature song of the American singer songwriter Bruce Springsteen, and the title song of his album Born to Run. Written in a small house in Long Branch, New Jersey in early 1974, the song was Bruce Springsteen's last-ditch effort to make it big. The prior year, Springsteen had released two albums to critical acclaim but with little commercial success. The lyrics to the song are appropriately epic for his last-ditch, all-or-nothing shot at the stars, yet they remain rooted in the universal desperation of adolescence: We gotta get out while we're young...
