If you take it down a half step it gives you easier chords to play. And if you put a capo on the first fret, and take it down a half step, it sounds the same, but are easier chords.

for verses and the bridge i find the strumming patterns D DDUD and D DDU to be good and interchangeable. for the pre chorus i use single down strums and then i switch to an D DUDUDU. when you reach the chorus slowed down i use really hard down strums for emphasism, when you reach the second "this is my roaring" i go back to the verses strum pattern. do the same for the outro and play a single down strum for the last "I wanna go home"
