Me myself, I got nothing to prove.

I got a plan to get us out of here:
Cmaj7 Cmaj7 G G
I been working at the convenience store,
Em Em D D
Managed to save just a little bit of money.
Cmaj7 Cmaj7 G G
Won't have to drive too far
Em Em D D
Just 'cross the border and into the city,

You and I can both get jobs
Em Em D D

My mama went off and left him, she wanted more from life than he could give,

Em Em D D
So I quit school and that's what I did.

Cmaj7 Cmaj7 G G Em Em D D X2

Cmaj7 Cmaj7 G G

We gotta make a decision:
Em Em D D
Leave tonight or live and die this way.

Cmaj7 Cmaj7 G G Em Em D D X2

The following comment has been added to your tab : 'The main riff is Cmaj7 Cmaj7, C C, Cmaj7 Cmaj7, G5 G5 instead of just Cmaj7 Cmaj7 and G G. This way you play the melody on the first string (A A string) by playing 2, 3, 2, 5 with the chords'

BeZo, that tune sounds great on the A string, but is there more to it to pluck?
A---2, 3,2,5,5,5 then, by my ear it goes A--10, 9, then back to 5 again?

I'm going to answer my question after careful research:
D-DU-UD D-DU-UD
CMAJ7: D-D
G: U-UD
(I play Emaj7 instead of e): DD
D: U-UD

The main riff is Cmaj7, C, Cmaj7, G5 instead of just Cmaj7 and G. This way you play the melody on the first string (A string) by playing 2, 3, 2, 5 with the chords

About this song: Fast Car

The Fast Car Songfacts says: When the then unknown Tracy Chapman was booked to appear down the bill at the Nelson Mandela birthday concert at Wembley Stadium on June 11th 1988, little did she know her appearance would be the catalyst for a career breakthrough. After performing several songs from her self titled debut during the afternoon, Chapman thought she'd done her bit and could relax and enjoy the rest of the concert. However, later in the evening Stevie Wonder was delayed when the computer discs for his performance went missing, and Chapman was ushered back onto stage again.
