According to the Supernova Songfacts, Kanye West co-wrote this song with Mr. Hudson (aka English singer-songwriter Ben Hudson). One day West came into the studio and announced he had a "gift" for Hudson. West then proceeded to play to him the chorus of this tune. The duo then completed the song together.
