All right all right. I'm not sure what's the definition of Ego in a spiritual way, but my opinion and believe is this. Ego is the variety of mental processes that society has developed throw the history, that keeps us away from the truly happiness. By this i mean that i believe in a type of happiness that Ego gives us, but it's never the real one, it always has a prize. Of course pain its part of life, but that's because we have the ability to being more than being. Consciousness is just a fact, not a responsibility.
