Walkin' down the kings road,

I see so many faces
A A
They came from many(?) places
A A E E
They come down for the day
E E
They walk around together
E E A A
And try and look trendy

I think it's a shame

E E
Here they come
E E A A
la la la la la la

la la la la la la
A A E E
The part time punks!

A A
la la la la la la
A A E E
The part time punks!
(back to verse...)

Then they go to Rough Trade
To buy Siouxsie and the Banshees
They heard John Peel play it
Just the other night
They'd like to buy the O level single
or Read about Seymour
But they're not pressed in red
So they buy The Lurkers instead

Chorus

They play their records very loud
And pogo in the bedroom
In front of the mirror
But only when their mums gone out
They play(!!???)on the buses
And they never use toothpaste
But they got two fifty to go and see The Clash
Tonight!

About this song: Part Time Punks

Post punk era British band's observations of behaviour of youngsters who purport to be fans of punk rock and its associated lifestyle but live lives of dependence on their parents and their lower middle class values. A parody performed in minimalist style suggestive of punk ethos but simultaneously exposing the hypocrisy of punk performers as well as their fans and perhaps of the typically self effacing British Television Personalities themselves.
